Taccia Empress Fountain Pen - Wajima 36 Blue - Limited Edition
The fountain pens in Taccia's Empress Collection pair Taccia's oversized Empress body with a Sailor King of Pen (KOP) 18k gold nib. These pens feature expert application of urushi lacquer to create stunning and unique works of art.
The Wajima 36 Blue body is made up of gold rings with ink strokes of blue and black that also circle around the body. The blue and black strokes give the body a texture, making it comfortable to hold. Wajima had long been the center of lacquerware production. Wajima lacquerware has illustrated craftsmanship and has flourished since the Edo period. It is distinguished by its rich foundation and decorative embellishments that promise both aesthetic and functional excellence. It has continued to evolve while maintaining its traditions.
Each fountain pen is made by hand in Taccia's urushi studio on Wajima, Japan, using traditional inlay techniques enhanced with precious metals and lacquer. To blend the old with the new, each fountain pen comes fitted with an 18k gold nib made by Sailor in Japan along with an individually polished, lightweight yet durable ebonite barrel. The cushion screw cap closure allows for an airtight seal that prevents the pen from drying out. Each series is limited and signed by the maki-e artisan who created it, truly emphasizing the tradition of craftsmanship.
In 2024, an earthquake struck the area of Japan near Wajima, greatly affecting the area's local artisans and urushi artists. As the region continues to rebuild after this natural disaster, urushi works from Wajima are still sparse and highly valued due to their limited quantities.
