About the Authors
Steve Leveen made Spanish his adoptive language in midlife, a journey he recounts in his award-winning book, Americas Bilingual Century. A science writer who took a 25-year hiatus to cofound and run a retail enterprise called Levenger, Steve devoted two executive-fellowship years at Harvard and Stanford interviewing language scholars and conducting research on bilingualism. He uses his science background to synthesize data and findings into compelling messages for general readers. His podcast, part of the America the Bilingual Project he founded in 2017, has featured scores of bilinguals who are advancing the role of bilingualism in America. Akshay Swaminathan is a Knight-Hennessy Scholar and a P.D. Soros Fellow at Stanford University, where he is pursuing an MD and a PhD in biomedical data science. He graduated from Harvard University with a bachelors degree in statistics
