The Blackwing 292 pays tribute to Keith Haring, one of the most influential artists whose work reflected the energy of 1980s urban street culture. Inspired by the graffiti artists whose marks covered the citys subway cars, Haring began to draw in white chalk over the black paper used to cover vacant advertising panels.
By 1980, Haring was exhibiting globally while continuing public projects, creating murals, sculptures, and paintings to support hospitals, childrens groups, and community health organizations. His Pop Shop at 292 Lafayette Street served as an open space for everyone to experience his art. Haring used projects like the Pop Shop to share his message beyond galleries, a spirit that continues in this box of pencils.
Each pencil features Blackwings firm graphite core and Keith Harings iconic dancing figures.
