The Tombow Mono 100 Pencil was released in 1967 to commemorate Tombows 55th anniversary and as a direct competitor to the Mitsubishi Hi-Uni. Because the original Mono pencil was such a huge success in Japan, Tombow began releasing many different products with the Mono name such as the Tombow Mono Eraser.

What makes the Mono 100 so special is that the core particles were increased to 10 billion particles per cubic millimeter. This high-density structure of the graphite lead allows for smooth and dark lines. After it was released, it was considered a high-quality, luxury pencil and was sought after by kids and adults alike.
